Alan Taylor announces retirement
Alan Taylor, who has worked with Wapato, WA-based E.W. Brandt & Sons for the past 27 years, announced he will be retiring at the end of 2015. Among his most notable accomplishments, Taylor has been associated with the development of the Pink Lady brand apple following its introduction to North America in 2001-02.
“You can't have a good brand without a good apple,” he told The Produce News Dec. 15. Taylor said this is the fourth straight year Pink Lady has set production records. “I'm really proud of it. It's been a blessing.”
Even with the news of his retirement from E.W. Brandt, Taylor said he has branding projects in the wing that will receive his attention in 2016. Several of these projects will likely include E.W. Brandt, and Taylor will provide marketing expertise to FairWeigh, a company that provides producers with a mobile weighing system for orchards.
On a personal note, Taylor was sworn in on Dec. 14 as a member of the school board for the 4th District of Wapato School District 207. “I have come full circle,” he stated, adding he graduated from high school in this district in 1967.
