CENTER, CO — Expecting to run 2 million hundredweight this year, Skyline Potato Co.has rebuilt two existing plants for additional capacity.

According to Rob Bache, who works both organic and conventional sales and oversees food safety operations at Skyline, the Horizon facility south of Center and the Purely Organic plant in town have both seen extensive refurbishing in advance of the new crop.

John Duffus, director of sales and marketing for The Garlic Co. in Bakersfield, CA, said the company has offered an organic line for more than 15 years.

“We offer garlic in a variety of forms: whole bulb, peeled, diced, VakPak, frozen, roasted and puree form,” said Mr. Duffus. “And all these forms can be made with organic product. We sell the majority of our garlic in peeled and whole bulb form. This holds true for our organic products as well.”

Two key players on the Oppenheimer sales team will bring their game faces to top positions after recent promotions.

Walt Breeden brings 25 years of experience in produce to his role of director of sales for Canada. His tenure with Oppenheimer began in 1987, selling California-grown produce throughout Western Canada. In 1997 he was promoted to sales manager, and in 2001 he led the opening of the company's Calgary, AB, office.

Marina Pace, marketing representative for Jacobs Farm/Del Cabo Inc., a Pescadero, CA-based organic grower-distributor, said that Del Cabo’s organic sweet petite pepper medley, a colorful mix of sweet mini peppers developed by the company’s plant breeding team, will soon be available in promotable volumes.

ABERDEEN, NJ — Fresh produce is a key part of Livoti’s Old World Market, and in late August, the supermarket was strongly emphasizing the local nature of that fresh produce.

As the store is located here in Monmouth County, NJ, in the eastern-central part of the state, that meant, obviously, fresh produce from the Garden State.

VINELAND, NJ — The Vineland Produce Auction has seen “pretty stable” volume so far this year, and “quality has been very good” on items across the board, according to the Auction’s Carol DeFoor.
