Fresh-cut produce and fresh foods marketer Ready Pac is putting the final touches on preparation for its participation at the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit in Anaheim, CA, Oct. 26-28. Ocean Spray Cranberries Inc., the world's largest cranberry cooperative, celebrated the first harvest of Pleasant Ridge Cranberry Farm in Rogersville, NB, Ocean Spray's first and only company-owned farm in North America. The 125-acre farm will yield nearly 1 million pounds of cranberries this year, with expectations of an increased yield of 3 million pounds over the next few years.

Texas seems primed for a terrific citrus season. Sets are good, the start should be early and timely rains promise larger fruit than last year. Hot days promise sweet fruit and cooler nights are bringing on good color. Aside from a trio of hailstorms in May, milder weather means the crop will be more cosmetically appealing than usual.

But lurking in the background is the specter of HLB — citrus greening disease — which was discovered in Texas in January.
