The Eastern Produce Council announced that it has formed a new Women's Leadership Committee, which will be chaired by industry veteran Theresa Lowden, executive vice president of the Mid-Atlantic Produce Division of JOH.

The EPC Women's Leadership Committee will be scheduling its first meeting over the summer and the entire committee will be announced prior to the Sept. 10 EPC meeting.

Guests of United Supermarkets' Snyder, TX, location will soon see a fresh new look along with added services resulting from a store remodeling effort now under way.

The project is set for completion in late July, according to Chris James, regional vice president of United Supermarkets, LLC.

Blueberry production continues to be a growth industry in the Pacific Northwest. “Freshly harvested Oregon blueberries, one of the joys of summer, are on the way, and this year’s crop is looking bigger and better than ever,” said the Oregon Blueberry Commission on its website. “In fact, Oregon growers are expected to harvest more than 70 million pounds of blueberries this year, another production record.”

Michigan fruit growers have weathered the storm following serious crop losses in 2012 and are expressing optimism about a return to normal production in 2013.

“This year’s tree fruit crop will be abundant,” wrote Terry McLean, who is based at the Michigan State University Extension Service. There should be plenty of apples, pears, peaches, sweet and tart cherries, and plums to go around, unlike last year, despite several freezing events that were recorded this April and May.”
