Fresh Express Inc. has issued a recall of a limited number of cases of 10-ounce Italian Salad with an already-expired use-by date due to a possible health risk from Listeria monocytogenes. No illnesses have been reported in association with the recall and no other Fresh Express products are being recalled.

The company is confirming with retailers that the expired product has already been removed from store shelves and inventories in accordance with its strict procedures for products that have reached their expiration date.

The California Table Grape Commission recently hired Fabian Garcia as its new assistant director of international marketing, and expanded the responsibilities of Rachel Scott and Jeff Klitz in the areas of digital media/community service and marketing communications, respectively.

“We are looking forward to the Florida blueberry season this year,” Charlie Eagle, vice president of business development for Southern Specialties, headquartered in Pompano Beach, FL, told The Produce News in early March. “As of now, we continue to bring product into our Pompano facility from offshore, such as asparagus, which we grow and import from Peru year-round. When Peru is in its slower season our Mexican volumes pick up, but Peru continues to move in conjunction with the Mexican movement.”
