Sage Fruit-sponsored Kasey Kahne Racing wins first World of Outlaws championship

On Nov. 9, Daryn Pittman edged out Donny Schatz for the 2013 World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series championship. With his 12th place finish in the season finale, he became the ninth different World of Outlaws champion in 36 years.

"As a longtime sponsor of Kasey Kahne Racing, we are beyond excited for Daryn and the entire KKR team," Kaci Komstadius, social media director at Sage Fruit, said in a press release. "He had an amazing run this year, and the team worked extremely hard to earn this championship."

Sage Fruit has been a sponsor of Kasey Kahne racing for the past nine years. Through the partnership, retail customers have been presented with very unique marketing opportunities including themed apple bags, in-store display contests, meet and greets with Kasey Kahne at NASCAR Races and even consumer contests.

Peru remains important source for Pacific Produce

This year, the avocado market has seen record volumes from Mexico and a third straight year of California eclipsing the 300 million-pound mark, so there is no shortage of fruit for the U.S. market.

That has led to a slow start for Peru, according to Isabel Tavera, vice president of Pacific Produce, who told The Produce News on May 25 that just 194 containers of Peruvian avocados had shipped to date compared to 1,124 containers the same time last year.
