Riggio Distribution adds Matt DeBlouw to team
Matt DeBlouw, a trusted farmer and ag expert, joined Riggio Distribution Co., at the beginning of 2022.
“I know their family and they’re great people, so bringing my farm experience and my relationships with local growers is a great match,” he said. “Being active year-round is where the industry is going, so I thought Riggio was a great fit for me.”
A former president of his family farm, Mike Pirrone Produce and a board member of the Michigan Vegetable Council, DeBlouw graduated from Michigan State University in 2016 with a degree in food industry management, agriculture and business.
“I ran my family farm and produce company for five years, and there’s a lot of challenges on the farming side that a lot of people don’t understand and being able to understand that now has brought a lot of experience,” DeBlouw said. “I understand the farm and the way things are grown and weather patterns, which I think is very helpful.”
“Matt comes with experience and family values from growing up in the produce business, and adds value and youth to the team,” said Philip Riggio, one of the leaders of the Detroit-based company. “Matt has been a valued supplier for years and Riggio has purchased products from him. He impressed us and we wanted him to join us.”
In his new role, DeBlouw will be charged with buying and selling produce and bridging the gap with local farmers.
“He will be working with the buying team and sales team and already fits in with his peers,” Riggio said. “His attitude and personality are upbeat and contagious.”
One of the company’s goals for 2022 is to increase growth beyond Detroit, and DeBlouw will leverage his existing relationships nationally to help Riggio achieve that.
