Adam Wampler, Kroger president, dies at 48
Adam Wampler, president of Kroger’s Dallas division, died earlier this week. He was 48. With more than 30 years in the retail industry, Mr. Wampler had a successful career with Albertsons/Safeway and Bartell Drugs in Seattle before joining Kroger.
"The entire Kroger family is saddened by the passing of Adam Wampler, president of the Dallas division," said Rodney McMullen, CEO and chairman of the Kroger Co. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Adam’s wife, children, family and friends."
Mr. Wampler held miscellaneous retail roles at Safeway for the first 16 years of his career before being promoted to district manager in 2005. Three years later he was promoted to vice president of merchandising and marketing, and six years later he took on the role of senior vice president of operations, a position he continued at Albertsons Cos.' Northern California division for an additional two years.
After a 21-month stay at Bartell Drugs as vice president of operations, Mr. Wampler joined the Kroger family in September 2019 as the vice president of merchandising for the Fred Meyer division. He held that position until March 2020, when he was elevated to president of Kroger's Dallas division.
"We are grateful Adam chose to join Kroger," said McMullen. "He was a skilled operator, merchant and leader in the retail industry, but more importantly he was a talented, selfless leader who had positive impact on our associates, customers and communities. Adam will be fondly remembered by all for his compassion for others and zest for life."
