Canadawide-Frescadel to feature new product line
Canadawide will be setting up shop at Booth 305 at the 2013 CPMA Convention April 17-19 to showcase its new Frescadel product line. The line features a new convenient clamshell used for a variety of products, including kiwifruit, grapes, clementines, peaches, plums and nectarines.
With today’s consumers looking for fresh produce full of flavor, packaging is a concern.
According to Fernande Bernier of Canadawide-Frescadel, the new clamshell is original and solid, with a beautiful image and an excellent view of the product inside. It will be used for packaging products in a two-pound format.
Frescadel is Canadawide’s packaging division specializing in fruit and vegetables. The full-line wholesaler opened a second location last summer for production of the Frescadel line.
The new facilities were designed to feature the latest in refrigeration, energy efficiency, racking systems and a fully refrigerated shipping dock with tight seal doors. The warehouse is Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point certified and has greatly improved Canadawide’s production capacity.
“We have more workspace and thereby more storage space,” said Ms. Bernier. In response to consumer demand for ready-to-eat products, the facility also allows the company to pre-wash produce on site.
The Montreal-based company sells its products across Canada, with the bulk of its business in its home province. Clients range from small family-based businesses to national retailers.
Canadawide itself started as a small greengrocery in Montreal, founded by John and Angeliki Pitsikoulis. The operation is still a family affair. Mr. Pitsikoulis has been joined in his business by sons Michael, George and Nick Pitsikoulis.
The company’s tagline is “From nature to market in expert hands,” and the sales and marketing staff is looking forward to promoting the new clamshell at this year’s CPMA.
“We will be in contact with hundreds of potential and existing customers,” said Ms. Bernier. “It’s a good opportunity for us.”
