Domestic Goldens and Fujis an economical alternative to imports
Goldens and Fujis, seeing steady movement despite the presence of imported fruit in the marketplace, represent value to consumers and a reliable focal point for retailers, according to Scott Marboe, marketing director for Oneonta Starr Ranch Growers in Wenatchee, WA.
“Consumers know and trust our 'Starr Ranch' brand apples," he said in a press release. "In today’s economy, the discerning shopper is looking not only for a bargain
An Oneonta Starr Ranch Growers Fuji apple., which we offer with our domestic product, but also a proven source of vitamins and minerals. Continued studies on apples are showing them to be nutritional powerhouses, and we know consuming more fresh fruits and vegetables help in the fight against obesity and diabetes.
“We are offering excellent quality and a good range of sizes in both varieties,” he said in the release. “The versatility of the sweet, firm apples makes each perfect for out-of-hand eating, and they both also lend themselves to cooking. That’s important as more and more Americans are returning to the kitchen and home-prepared meals.”
With a sweet and crunchy bite and fragrant juicy flesh, the Fuji stores well, holds its quality and is good for snacking.
“I just returned from a trip visiting accounts in Asia," Mr. Marboe said. "I ate some locally produced Fuji and then had one of ours. The taste, the density of the apple and the pressure of our Washington-grown Starr Ranch apples were exceptional.”
The Golden is good for snacking or baking, and it is firm with sweet white flesh just beneath a thin skin.
“Spring is sometimes considered import season, but we want buyers to know our Washington-grown fruit is still abundant,” Mr. Marboe said.
