The Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers will celebrate its silver anniversary with four regional meetings in Texas, North Carolina, Ohio and at a location yet to be named.
The regional meetings will be shorter this year, according to an association news release, and each will have a different feducational focus.
“On the Farm” will be the topic for the March 4-5 farm tours and demonstrations at the Hill County Farm in Wimberly, TX. Frank and Amanda Arnosky will lead a program on Texas specialty cut flowers.
“Knowledge is Flower Power” will be the theme at the March 17-18 seminar held at the Raulston Arboretum and North Carolina State University in Raleigh. Researchers and growers will share information about new cut-flower varieties, diagnostics, post-harvest practices and farm procedures. Tours will include cut-flower growers Peregrine Farms and Wild Hare Farms,
“From Seed to Sale” is the focus at the Oct. 7-8 session at Secrest Arboretum of Ohio State University in Wooster, OH. Growers will explain production and marketing procedures for a wide variety of cut-flower crops. Activities include a tour of the arboretum.
“Strictly Business,” at a location yet to be announced, will explore the drab but important art of business practices, including record-keeping, employee management, logistics, taxes, expansion and market analysis. This event is the annual growers’ business school that will mix hands-on field techniques and tours with classroom-style business training.
