Contest promotes WI potatoes as Breakfast of Champions
In a few short days, the Wisconsin Potato & Vegetable Growers Association will announce the winners of its Breakfast of Champions Wisconsin Potato Recipe Contest.
“We have 95 submissions, which is well above what we received for the last contest held at the end of last year,” Dana Rady, director of promotion, communication and consumer education, said Jan. 7.

Contest winners will be announced on Jan. 30.
The contest began Dec. 3, 2012, and valid entries were taken through Jan. 4, 2013. The contest was open to all entrants 18 years of age or older throughout the United States.
Mr. Rady said the public obtained details about the contest through email blasts, on Facebook and at www.eatwisconsinpotatoes.com. “They also become aware of the contests through word of mouth thanks to our online and social media presence,” she added.
Consumers had an opportunity to get weigh in on contest submissions through Jan. 24. Recipes, rated on a scale of one to five, are judged based upon creativity, ease of preparation and taste. “Votes and comments are also taken into consideration,” Ms. Rady said.
The contest champion will receive a $400 gift card from Williams-Sonoma. The second-place winner will receive a $150 gift card to a favorite grocery store, and the third-place winner will receive a $100 gift card also to a favorite retailer. In addition to contest winners, the name of one lucky individual rating the Breakfast of Champions recipes will be randomly selected to receive a $100 gift card from Williams-Sonoma.
