Expo Flora Russia tallies attendance at 600, show a success
The second edition of Expo Flora Russia closed its doors Sept. 7, having drawn about 600 attendees representing nearly 400 companies in 27 countries, said Jasper van Dijk, marketing manager for HPP Exhibitions in Holland, the show sponsor. The three-day show was held in the historic Gostiny Dvor building near Moscow’s Red Square. Inside Gostiny Dvor’s columned halls, 89 exhibitors from 13 countries displayed their products.
In the Best Grower Quality Competition, the bronze medal was awarded to Podosinki from Russia with the variety, Miss Piggy; the silver medal went to Nevado Ecuador with Moody Blues; the gold medal was won by Rosaprima of Ecuador with Deep Purple; and the platinum medal went to Jaroma Roses of Colombia with Mondial.
In the Best Breeders Quality Competition, the bronze winner was NIRP from Italy with the variety Blueberry; silver went to Interplant Roses from Holland with Explorer; gold to Meilland International from France with Matilda; and the platinum medal was awarded to Olij Breeding from Holland with Deep Purple.
Because Russian consumers have had a long love affair with big roses, it was no surprise that about 90 percent of the exhibitors were breeders, propagators, growers, importers, wholesalers and retailers involved in the rose industry. Several Kenyan growers exhibited for the first time in Russia, according to Mr. van Dijk. During the show, the Dutch Flower Design School Boerma Instituut and a Japanese designer presented daily flower design demonstrations in the hall.
