Chew crew to munch on Crazy Apples
The hosts of the popular daytime cooking show, "The Chew," enjoyed Sage Fruit's Crazy Apples so much that they decided to give the value-added product some national face time on Oct. 24.
Crazy Apples, which are flavored inside, were specifically developed to provide children with a healthful fruit option. Bubble gum, pomegranate grape and tropical blast are the featured flavors. Limited-edition holiday and seasonal flavors also available.
The announcement that Crazy Apples would be featured on "The Chew" took everyone by surprise, including company President Chuck Sinks, who told The Produce News Oct. 23, "I've got to be honest with you, they contacted us and it came about really fast."
"The Chew" hosts discovered Crazy Apples on their own and requested that Sage Fruit Co., headquartered in Yakima, WA, send them samples to try.
"We shipped them overnight," Mr. Sinks said.
According to informal feedback, the Crazy Apples were an instant hit, and "The Chew" decided to give them air time on Oct. 24.
Mr. Sinks said he is gratified with the interest that retailers, consumers and now the television industry are showing. One of the show's significant viewership demographics is mothers.
"This will give kids a chance to eat something healthy, and give mothers a chance to put a healthy apple in their lunchboxes," Mr. Sinks said.
