“We are moving our basic lineup of vegetables currently,” Ken Cavallaro, treasurer of John Cerasuolo Co. Inc., told The Produce News. “We continue to handle a full line of vegetables from across the U.S., Canada and Mexico.”

Mr. Cavallaro said that there hasn’t been any slacking of business in the New England area during the economic downturn.
“Retailers are buying closer to the belt however,” he said. “No one is over-buying today.”
John Cerasuolo is unique in the industry in that it handles a full line of staple vegetables that people need regardless of whether they are eating at home or at a restaurant. The company does very little in fruits.
The company’s customers are retail chains and independent retailers and foodservice operators. It ships throughout New England.
Mr. Cavallaro noted that the foodservice sector in the areas that the company services are also doing well.
“We exercise extreme caution in making sure that all of the people we source our fresh produce from are highly reputable companies,” he said. “We source from areas and follow the seasons in order to always have our full line of items.”
He added that during the fall, it has more fall items, of course, and that also applies to the other seasons of the year.
“Regardless of the time of year, our staple items are always available,” said Mr. Cavallaro. “During this time of year we have more fall products, of course, but our staple items are always available.”
“We have had a good year,” he continued. “And hopefully we’ll continue to do well. Providing good customer service and high-quality produce is our goal at all times.”
