National Mango Board responds to FDA notice regarding 'Daniella' mangos
The U.S. Food & Drug Administration issued a consumer advisory against eating "Daniella" brand mangos, stating that the affected mangos were supplied by Agricola Daniella, a mango supplier in Sinaloa, Mexico, due to concerns that the mangos may be contaminated with Salmonella Braenderup bacteria.
In response to the FDA announcement, William Watson, executive director of the National Mango Board, released the following statement:
"Providing consumers with safe, quality mangos is our first priority. We were saddened to learn that any consumer had become ill after eating mangos. Since then, NMB and our member companies have focused our efforts on working with the FDA as the agency investigated the source of the foodborne contaminant.
"NMB will continue to work with the FDA and others in the industry to ensure that all 'Daniella' brand mangos are no longer on store shelves," the statement continued. "And as we learn more details regarding the FDA's investigation, the mango industry will take the necessary steps to improve our food safety standards and to reduce the risk of foodborne contaminants in mangos."
