Tater Man now in the market with new sweet potato crop
Tater Man announced that it has the first cured sweet potatoes available for the 2012-13 season and started shipping its "Suwannee River" branded sweet potatoes Aug. 15.
Tater Man is a Dover, FL-based produce company that specializes in growing and marketing sweet potatoes on approximately 800 acres. Most of the crop is located in northern Florida and in southern Georgia near the Suwannee River. Tater Man also grows sweet potatoes in Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and North Carolina.

Sweet potato harvesting underway for Tater Man.in Florida and Georgia should be completely harvested by September 15," Jason Bell of Tater Man said in a press release. "It should be a really good holiday season for our retail and foodservice partners. Tater Man ships sweet potatoes year round and takes food safety extremely seriously.
All Florida and Georgia sweet potatoes operations are third-party audited and participate in mock recalls. Tater Man doesn't import any product from outside the United State.
Tater Man will be launching a new three-pound retail bag this year, packed 12 bags per box.
"We are confident that this new bag will be a hit with our retail customers," Mark Vertrees, marketing director for Tater Man, added in the press release.
Tater Man started growing sweet potatoes in Florida three years ago to promote the early availability marketing niche. Tater Man's sweet potatoes have traditionally been sold in the Southeast, emphasizing the locally grown trend for fresher product and reduced transportation costs. Tater Man now also ships sweet potatoes to customers throughout North America.
