Larry Krempel, former Kroger produce executive, dies at 61
Lawrence (Larry) W. Krempel, who spent 37 years in produce merchandising and procurement with the Kroger Co., died unexpectedly Aug. 3 at University Hospital in Cincinnati. He was 61. The cause of death was not immediately available.
Mr. Krempel, who worked at Kroger's buying office in Vero Beach, FL, retired from the retailer in 2007. He subsequently held positions at GreenLine Foods in Perrysburg, OH, and Worldwide Produce Direct in Tampa, FL.
Fried De Schouwer, president of Greenhouse Produce Co. in Vero Beach, FL, who had done business with Mr. Krempel over the years and knew him as a fellow Vero Beach resident, called Mr. Krempel an "asset to the produce industry."
Mr. De Schouwer added, "When you work for one of the largest retail chains, it is easy to be standoffish, but Larry was not like that. He was open and very personable, and was always willing to accommodate schedules. This is a very sad occasion."
Mr. Krempel is survived by his wife of 40 years, Gerri; a son, Jacob and daughter-in-law Angela; a brother, Joseph; sisters Barbara McKinley, Elizabeth Knabe and Janey Studer.
Memorial contributions can be made to The Dynamic Catholic Institute, 2330 Kemper Lane, Cincinnati, OH 45206 or the St. Helen's Outreach 2025 20th Ave. Vero Beach, Fl 32960.
