Acreage, volume on the rise for Eagle Eye Produce
Eagle Eye Produce Inc. has stepped up its potato production this season. “We increased acreage over last year to meet customer demand and be able to run additional promotional campaigns,” Director of Marketing Nate Klingler told The Produce News July 31.
The company is headquartered in Idaho Falls, ID. “We are a grower-shipper of a full potato and onion program from most potato growing areas,” he went on to say. “We will be marketing Norkotah and Burbank russet potatoes out of Colorado, Washington and Idaho, along with reds, yellows and organic potatoes. We are a major player in the Idaho

Mr. Klingler was asked how this season’s potato crop has been faring. “We had an average to just-below-average rainfall this summer, which leaves us in good shape,” he commented. “Weather in Idaho has been good, producing a very smooth high-quality product. We could have used some more rain. But we feel like, considering what is going on in the Midwest, we have been very lucky.”
He expects a strong crop this season. “In some areas, we are seeing the crop ahead of schedule, which is good because of how fast old-crop is cleaning up. We anticipate a better yield than last year and a higher percentage of number ones,” he went on to say. “But with new-crop starting two weeks earlier than normal, this will help consume more of the crop earlier and not put an added burden on the market with excess product.”
Potatoes are marketed under the “Eagle Eye Produce” label. “We ship product coast to coast,” Mr. Klingler stated. “We export to Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.”
This past February, Eagle Eye Produce Inc. was named the 2011 U.S. Exporter of the Year by the Agricultural Trade Office, a market promotion office of the U.S. Department of Agriculture located in Mexico City, Mexico.
