Gourmet Trading looks to boost back-to-school sales

Gourmet Trading is promoting two of its items that carry the popular Box Tops for Education coupons - blueberries and bagged asparagus -- as key elements to boosting sales during the upcoming back-to-school season.

The Los Angeles-based company's blueberries and bagged asparagus are marketed under the "Green Giant Fresh" label.

Box Tops for Education is a nationwide fundraising program dedicated to helping America's schools. Families clip the Box Tops coupons from specially marked products and turn them in to their local school. The school then redeems the Box Tops coupons and receives a check to get the things they need, from books and school supplies to playground equipment to computers.

Box Tops for Education is the top school fundraising program, in which 80 percent of America's K-8 schools participate.

Retailers can increase profits by targeting the 31 million households that clip Box Tops coupons and focusing on the person who generally makes the purchasing decisions for these households: working, married mothers ages 30-40 who value education.

"Blueberries are the perfect snack for kids and a natural fit for Green Giant Fresh and the Box Tops for Education program," Jamie Strachan, president and chief executive officer of Green Giant Fresh, said in a press release. "Gourmet Trading Company is a key supplier for Green Giant Fresh and we are pleased to extend our relationship with them to include blueberries."

"We're excited to partner again with Green Giant Fresh and, especially, the Box Tops for Education program," Julia Inestroza, marketing director at Gourmet Trading Co., added in the press release. "Berries, in particular, are such a kid-friendly snack, and to be able to have the BTFE coupon on the product will only help increase sales at the retail level while giving back to schools in need across the country."

Green Giant Fresh blueberries with Box Tops for Education are available in 4.4-, six-, 11-, and 18-ounce pack sizes. Green Giant Fresh bagged asparagus with Box Tops for Education is available in 12-ounce and one-, 1.5-, 1.75- and 2-pound bags.
