Delaware Valley to purchase greenhouse firm in Pennsylvania
Delaware Valley Floral Group, one of the larger floral wholesalers in the United States, is getting a little bit larger. The 52-year-old company announced July 9 it has reached an agreement to purchase Way’s Greenhouses Inc. in Kennett Square, PA. Way’s started out as a grower more than a century ago and became a wholesale florist in the mid-1980s.
Ken Wilkins, Delaware Valley’s vice president of business development, commented in a statement that the acquisition will allow the firm increase revenues and to “leverage our current infrastructure and operating model in the Way’s territories of Southeast Pennsylvania, Delaware, and the Eastern Shore of Maryland. We have had great success adding wholesalers to our company and remain interested in further acquisition opportunities.”
The announcement stated that Way’s Greenhouses will be consolidated into Delaware Valley Wholesale Florist, a division of DVFG, and Greg Thomas. Way’s sales manager, and some other key employees will remain with the merged operations. Way’s customers will be served from Delaware Valley’s corporate headquarters in Sewell, NJ.
Delaware Valley’s market area has primarily been the mid-Atlantic and Northeastern states, but the company also ships throughout the United States, as well as to Bermuda and the Caribbean, and it has a strong Internet presence. Its four operating divisions are Delaware Valley Wholesale Florist, FreshBlooms (the mass market division), Transflora, and Flower Transfer Logistics.
