Zespri launches new kiwi variety in North American markets
Zespri announced the launch of its newest kiwifruit variety grown in New Zealand called SunGold, a hybrid of the Green and Gold varieties, which grows to a larger size than either variety.
"We are beyond excited to be introducing SunGold to North America," Michele Hoard, senior
marketing manager of Zespri North America said in a press release. "SunGold is a sensational piece of fruit that the trade, public and press have been anxiously awaiting. We are expecting SunGold Kiwifruit from Zespri to change the kiwifruit category for retailers. It is a great addition to our family of delicious and nutritious kiwifruit."
SunGold looks rounder than a normal Zespri Gold kiwifruit, has no hair and no crown. The flesh is more yellow than gold and is described as being sweet, juicy and refreshing. The new variety will be available in select supermarkets nationwide through November.
