Mann Packing to debut Better Burger Leaf at PMA Foodservice show
Mann Packing Co. will debut a new leaf lettuce — Mann's Better Burger Leaf — at the PMA Foodservice Expo July 22 in Monterey, CA.
The lettuce, a Nunhems exclusive seed variety, is a green leaf-Iceberg hybrid developed as part of Nunhems "Sandwich Concepts" launched officially at Fruit Logistica in February.
Mann
Packing identified the unique leaf variety during trial visits in England two years ago. Rick Russo, director of foodservice sales at Mann Packing, identified the variety, now marketed under the "Better Burger Leaf" brand.
"We loved the leaf variety because it filled the shape of sandwich breads and burger buns better than traditional green leaf," Mr. Russo said in a press release. "It has a tender crunch and a sweet Iceberg flavor."
In addition to its Better Burger Leaf, Mann will showcase its line of petite whole leaves, Mann's Arcadian Harvest Classic and Mann's Arcadian Harvest Emerald, as well as a new line of washed and trimmed leaf lettuces.
Mann's Arcadian Harvest, launched last year, is a blend of European lettuce species bred from various combinations
of Green leaf, Red leaf, Tangos, Lolla Rosa, Batavia and Oaks lettuces.
Chef Kevin Hincks and Chef Owen Klein will serve Mann's Arcadian Harvest Sundae Salad featuring "Naturipe" ready-to-eat blueberries as part of the PMA's Sensory Experience recipe contest.
Mann's Better Burger Leaf will be served at Naturipe's booth in a blueberry Sonoma chicken salad wrap, and the Britannia Arms Pub, located in downtown Monterey, will serve Mann's Better Burger Leaf on burgers and sandwiches throughout the weekend.
In addition, Mann and Naturipe will raffle two Apple iPads to attendees who visit both company booths.
