Gaspari Farms wins 13 ribbons at 2005 Mushroom Festival
Gaspari Farms in Temple, PA, a grower of high-quality fresh mushrooms, surpassed all other growers with 13 ribbons at the 20th annual Mushroom Festival in Kennett Square, PA.
The company received three blue ribbons for first-place recognitions, five red ribbons for second-place honors and five yellow ribbons for third place.
Gaspari Farms received more second- and third-place ribbons than any other grower and the second-most number of first-place ribbons. It was the only grower to be awarded ribbons in every white and Portabella mushroom category and, most notably, took home nine ribbons in the retail package category, also more than any other grower.
According to Mark A. Gaspari, vice president and owner of Gaspari Farms, winning in the retail category was the most important. "Being awarded for our retail presentation means our quality will not only meet or exceed the standards of the store's buyer and quality assurance team, but also, and most importantly, the stores customers."
The company also received four ribbons for its bulk and retail presentation of Oyster and Shiitake mushrooms. The Mushroom Festival is held annually in Kennett Square, which calls itself The Mushroom Capital of the World, and the state of Pennsylvania is responsible for more than 59 percent of U.S. mushroom production.
Gaspari Farms, founded in 1928 by Pietro Gaspari, is a family-owned business and is one of the pioneer mushroom companies in America. Located in the rolling hills of southeastern Pennsylvania, Gaspari Farms presently has 78 growing rooms that produce over 15 million pounds of mushrooms annually for customers all over the United States.
