IGA Hometown Wheels' Dream Ride raises $60,000 for charity
CHESHIRE, CT Bozzuto's Inc. and IGA Hometown Wheels held their fifth annual Dream Ride Aug. 21 at the Farmington (CT) Club, raising over $60,000 for Connecticuts Special Olympics program.
Adam J. Bozzuto, founder of Bozzutos, had a dream to build a facility in Connecticut where special children could thrive and experience joy from the opportunities that the facility could provide. For the last five years, Bozzutos, in conjunction with IGA Hometown Wheels and local sponsors, has set forth to make that dream a reality with the annual Dream Ride.
This year marked the fifth anniversary of the event and was honored by Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi Rell with an official proclamation declaring Aug. 21, 2005 as Annual Dream Ride Day in the state of Connecticut.
Despite the early threat of rain, nearly 1,000 rides (both motorcycle and car) and supporters attended the event, which began at 9 a.m. Sunday morning with a continental breakfast. The first 500 registered riders received a Dream Ride gift pack. The vehicles departed at 11:30 a.m. for the hour-and-45-minute ride through northwestern Connecticut.
"Every year this even grows in attendance," Michael Bozzuto, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Bozzutos, said in a statement. It is truly an amazing sight to see all of the different motorcycle clubs and enthusiasts getting together to raise money for such a worthy cause.
Nick Hurley, owner of Hurleys Supermarket (also an IGA retailer) in Towanda, PA, who made the trip to Connecticut to attend, said, This was my first time attending this event. It seemed to be a never-ending line of motorcycles and cars. I couldnt believe the number of riders that turned out. It was beyond words.
