Jalil promoted to managing editor of The Produce News
ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, NJ -- Daniel Jalil, assistant editor of The Produce News, based here, has been promoted to managing editor of the publication, effective Aug. 1.
Mr. Jalil, 26, joined The Produce News in May 2002 as assistant editor after graduating from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ, where he earned a bachelor's degree in English.
As assistant editor, his main responsibilities were coordinating special sections that run each week in the publication, performing layout of special sections, writing news and feature stories, editing and proofing copy, and representing The Produce News at industry functions and meetings. As managing editor, he will retain those duties while also taking a larger role in managing staff and freelance writers, and contributing to the overall editorial product.
"In the three years that Dan has been with us, I have watched him develop into a key contributor for the newspaper," said John Groh, editor and associate publisher of The Produce News. He is a bright and motivated individual who seeks out challenges, and I look forward to having him play a bigger part with The Produce News for years to come.
"I am honored to be given this added responsibility, Mr. Jalil said. "I very much enjoy working with The Produce News, and I am really excited to be moving into a managerial role. The paper has been growing by leaps and bounds, and I look forward to taking on a larger role and more responsibility for its direction and continued success.
