Wegmans’ kicks off campaign to support summer feeding programs
Wegmans Food Markets kicked off its company-wide Fill the Bus/Fill the Backpack scan campaign to raise money for the company’s 53 Feeding America food bank partners.
“Families often turn to local food banks for help during the summer months when students lose access to meals at school,” said Deana Percassi, Wegmans vice president of community engagement and communication. “We’re so grateful to our employees for bringing awareness to this important campaign and to our customers who donate generously each year. It truly makes a huge impact on reducing hunger for our neighbors in need.”
Donations made during this campaign help support local food bank’s summer feeding and backpack programs. These programs ensure school-aged children continue to have access to adequate food during the summer months when free and reduced-price school lunches are unavailable.
"When school is out, many kids lose access to nutritious meals and snacks," said Elise Krikau, chief philanthropy officer at the Maryland Food Bank. "Every dollar raised through the Fill the Bus campaign means more children and families can eat, play and thrive during the summer months."
Wegmans has a long history of supporting local food banks through daily food donations and annual scan campaigns. In 2025, Wegmans donated more than 36.8 million pounds of food, and its customers raised more than $4.7 million through its annual scan campaigns to help reduce hunger.
