At Vick Family Farms, consistent quality is key focus of organic sweet potatoes
With multiple offerings of organic sweet potato packaging options, Vick Family Farms is seeing strong interest in the sector from retail partners.
Vick Family Farms, Wilson, NC, grows, packs and distributes the Covington variety through its organic program, and the company is exploring opportunities to add other varieties in the future, said Charlotte Vick, partner/sales and marketing manager for the company.
The company’s organic brand, Natural Gold, is packed in 40- and 20-pound cartons, five-pound bags (10 to a carton), three-pound bags (12 to a carton), bulk, overwrapped trays and Bakers.
Vick Family Farms’ organic/conventional distribution is 15 percent /85 percent, Vick said.
The multi-generational family farming operation works to ensure the products meet customer and end-consumer expectations of quality.
“We feel our quality is extremely good, plus we have been able to meet the prices our retail partners need to keep consistent sales on organic,” Vick said. “There is certainly a demand for good quality organic sweet potatoes.”
As organic production and overall consumer interest in sweet potatoes have grown over the years, the company offers Natural Gold brand sweet potatoes year-round.
“The category continues to grow, and we are happy we are able to offer this year-round to our customers now,” Vick said. “The quality we receive in inventory has been good and this has allowed us to grow our sales in the organic market.”The company’s 2026 goals — for organic and conventionally-grown sweet potatoes — are to “focus on continued brand awareness and increasing our sales and strengthening our partnerships with current customers in this area,” she said.
