Progressive Produce sees growth in organic category under Nature’s Bounty brand
With more than 50 organic stock-keeping units, Progressive Produce has a wide variety of items to offer, including year-round programs in key commodities.
The Los Angeles-based company is promoting the quality of its organic russet potatoes this spring, according to Gael Vazquez, vice president of procurement and grower relations.
“We have a good crop this season with great quality,” Vazquez said. “We also emphasize their year-round availability and the reliability of our program, which helps our customers plan with confidence.”
Other organic offerings from Progressive Produce, sold under its Nature’s Bounty Organic brand, include:
Red and gold potatoes
Gourmet potatoes (baby red, baby gold, baby medley and fingerlings)
Sweet potatoes
Onions (red, yellow, sweet and white)
Asparagus
Citrus (lemons, navel oranges, Valencia oranges, grapefruit, limes and mandarins)
Herbs (mint, basil, chives, sage, tarragon, dill, bay leaf, thyme and oregano)
Green beans
Progressive Produce has seen an increase in consumer interest in organic sweet potatoes, Vazquez said, adding that they are becoming a standout in the category.
“Consumers have finally found these hidden gems, thanks to their nutritional benefits, versatility and natural sweetness,” he said. “At retail, we’re seeing strong movement as more shoppers incorporate them into everyday meals, whether through roasting, meal prep or comfort-style recipes. This increased awareness is helping drive repeat purchases and expand their role beyond seasonal demand into a year-round staple.”
The company is working on growing its organic category with new items, tentatively planning an announcement later this year.
“Our goal for 2026 is to continue growing our organic program while providing our customers with the best organic quality,” Vazquez said.
Conventional crop update
On the conventional side, Vazquez said Progressive Produce is looking forward to the start of its California flat sweet onion season in May.
“It’s a great option during the Vidalia window, especially on the West Coast, helping reduce freight without compromising on flavor or quality,” he said.
The company packs the California sweet onions in 40-pound cartons and 2-pound consumer bags, which works well for both retail and foodservice customers.
“It’s a program that continues to gain traction, especially as more customers look to source closer to home while maintaining consistency in their sweet onion sets,” Vazquez said.
