Southern Specialties offers consistency in fresh produce
Officials at Southern Specialties are throwing a party for themselves at the annual SEPC Southern Exposure show.
In honor of the Pompano Beach, FL-based operation’s 35th anniversary, company officials want to make it clear what has happened over the years to make the company so successful.
“Southern Specialties celebrated the company’s 35th anniversary this year,” said Charlie Eagle, vice president of business development. “We owe that success to a great team and many longstanding trade partners. Our attention to the shifting needs of consumers and the foodservice sector, combined with our vertically integrated operations, has enabled us to provide consistent value to our customers.
“We continue to make investments in our infrastructure, operations and business solutions to meet the ever-changing demands of the produce industry. Our focus remains on customer service, innovation and sustainability.”
Eagle said company officials start to reach out to companies and attendees they hope to meet with well in advance of the show. “We try to set meetings or entertainment opportunities during the course of the event,” he said. “The beauty of the Southern Exposure show is the timing, and the location is attractive to a wide range of retail and foodservice buyers eager to escape cold winter weather. The show’s limited size provides excellent opportunities for exhibitors to spend time interacting with those buyers.”
He added that Southern Specialties Southern Selects line of value-added products has made a huge impact at the show booth, noting that a large array of colorful and exciting products are shown that make for an attractive and impactful destination area.
Another key is making sure attendees understand what Southern Specialties is about and how the company can help them in their own business. For example, Eagle said that the company is known as a leading grower and importer of fresh asparagus.
“Our Mexican asparagus program is in full swing and we will also be showcasing our white asparagus, perfect for Easter promotions,” he said. “Our Michigan asparagus deal starts in the spring so it will also be a large part of the asparagus conversation. We want customers to know they have flexibility to receive asparagus from multiple shipping points including Florida, Arizona, Texas and Michigan.
“Our Southern Selects lineup of value-added products include a presentation and pack style ideal for any type of customer or consumer,” eagle continued. “Of course, those products including asparagus, snipped green beans, French beans, snow peas and sugar snaps, baby carrots, heirlooms tomatoes, berries, tropical fruits and so much more, are all available to be shipped in bulk or foodservice pack styles, as well as private label opportunities.”
The company’s success is also rooted in giving the customers exactly what they want and need. “If a customer wants any product snipped, peeled, cut, sliced or custom packaged, chances are we can do it,” Eagle added. “We have the ability to offer any number of customized services to help provide the best bang for the buck for our customers.”
The beauty of SEPC is reconnecting with the industry and sharing ideas that help everyone, Eagle said. “We always look forward to meeting our existing and prospective customers at this show,” he noted. “Our hopes are that those folks not familiar with our company leave with a good knowledge of everything Southern Specialties brings to the table. Including offering premium specialty produce from a reliable company, creating fresh partnerships and developing fresh inspiration for the fresh generation.”
He added that the plan that has worked so well in the past, will be the blueprint for the future.
“Southern Specialties works hard to remain focused on our customers’ needs while constantly looking towards the future,” Eagle said. “As long as folks continue to eat fresh fruit and vegetables, our goal is to bring them year-round value with safe, nutritious and delicious produce grown in the Americas.”
