Oriental and LA lilies: Perfect flowers for any décor mood
Oriental and LA lilies: Perfect flowers for any décor mood
Whether your décor style leans traditional or embraces the unconventional, Oriental and LA lilies add texture and striking color to any arrangement. From crisp whites and soft pastel pinks to rich, deep reds, there is a lily to suit every mood. With a typical vase life of about 10 days, these blooms pair beautifully with long-lived winter greens.
Care and handling tips
Purchasing
Select stems with lower blooms showing full color and just beginning to open.
Rehydration and storage (store level)
- Begin processing with a clean bucket sanitized with FloraLife D.C.D. cleaner.
- If received dry-packed, condition stem ends to prevent blockage and promote water uptake. Cut approximately one inch or more from the stems using clean, sanitized clippers or a knife, then treat with FloraLife Quick Dip.
- Place flowers in a holding solution such as FloraLife Clear 200 or FloraLife Express Ultra 200. Do not place flowers directly into metal or galvanized buckets.
- Use clean, high-quality water that has not been treated with a water softener, as elevated salt levels can damage flowers.
- Store in a cooler at 34 to 38 degrees Fahrenheit with relative humidity between 75 percent and 85 percent.
- Allow a minimum of two hours for hydration, placing buckets in an area with good airflow.
- Follow FIFO (first in, first out) procedures when rotating flowers.
Vase care
- Remove any foliage that will fall below the vase solution.
- Cut approximately one inch or more from stems using clean, sanitized tools. If flowers were received dry, treat with FloraLife Quick Dip.
- Immediately place flowers in a vase solution containing either FloraLife Crystal Clear (ideal for clear vases) or FloraLife Express 300 (a no-cut-needed solution).
- Keep arrangements away from direct sunlight and ripening produce.
Common issues and prevention
- Poor flower opening may occur if stems are cut too green.
- To prevent bud drop or drying, ensure suppliers or growers treat flowers with an ethylene action inhibitor such as EthylBloc.
- To reduce premature leaf yellowing, apply an anti-yellowing treatment at the farm level after harvest, such as FloraLife Bulb 100 in Colombia.
- Lily pollen stains surfaces. Carefully remove anthers before pollen sheds.
