New SustainaGuides on lighting, water conservation available
Sustainabloom has added three new guides to its growing collection of sustainability resources aimed at helping floriculture industry members adopt practical, research-based solutions.
The new Lighting and Water Conservation SustainaGuides expand the lineup of tools available through the Sustainabloom website, developed by the American Floral Endowment. The additions support Sustainabloom’s mission to make sustainability more accessible across all segments of the floral industry through clear, data-driven insights and actionable strategies.
Lighting guide for growers and suppliers
Lighting plays a critical role in plant production and workplace functionality. The new Lighting guide examines how greenhouse and facility lighting can be optimized to improve plant growth, employee well-being and energy efficiency. It includes expert guidance on sustainable lighting design, daylighting opportunities and cost-effective upgrades to newer technologies, along with practical steps for evaluating existing systems, improving lighting controls and balancing environmental and economic considerations.
Water conservation guides for growers and retailers
Water conservation remains a key sustainability challenge throughout the floriculture supply chain. Two new guides — one for growers and one for retailers — provide tailored strategies to reduce water use, protect local resources and strengthen long-term business resilience.
The growers guide focuses on efficient irrigation practices, water recycling and system maintenance to help reduce input costs while maintaining crop quality. The retailers guide offers recommendations for minimizing water use in floral design and displays, extending flower life and engaging consumers in sustainability efforts. Both guides outline practical steps for assessing water use and implementing conservation measures that can deliver measurable results.
As with all Sustainabloom resources, the new guides will be supported by additional materials and regularly updated information, including links to new research, articles and related tools.
Since its launch, Sustainabloom has grown into a central hub for sustainability education in floriculture, offering free resources designed to inform, connect and empower the floral community. Information on supporting, sharing or participating in the program is available through the Sustainabloom website.
