Unifrutti Group to acquire Peruvian grape grower-packer
Unifrutti Group, a global integrated leader in premium fresh fruit production and distribution, announced the acquisition of Safco (Global Agro Peru and Safco Peru). The integration of Safco enables Unifrutti to serve U.S. customers seamlessly from September through June, sourcing from grape farms in Piura and Ica in Peru, Copiapó in northern Chile, and extending through central Chile.
Safco operates approximately 560 hectares of grape farms and two modern packhouses in Ica, one of Peru’s key grape-growing regions. The company supplies premium table grapes to leading U.S. retailers, with a strong focus on proprietary varieties.
With this acquisition, Unifrutti consolidates its position as a leading table grape grower and exporter in the Southern Hemisphere, with more than 4,300 hectares of table grape farms and annual production of approximately 15 million boxes (120,000 metric tons).
“This acquisition marks another step in our journey to build the world’s leading sustainable multi-fruit company with a 52-week integrated supply," said Mohamed Elsarky, group CEO of Unifrutti Group. "By integrating Safco’s premium varieties and capabilities, we reinforce our ability to serve leading retailers and distributors worldwide.”
