The California Table Grape Commission and the Central California Food Bank collaborated in October on a two-week donation campaign that raised more than $60,000 to support food distributions in Fresno, Kern and Tulare counties.
The funds will support the food bank’s Farmworker Community Partnership Program, which brings food and other resources to rural agricultural communities that may not have easy access to distribution sites. The campaign, developed by the commission and the food bank, recognized California Farmer and Farmworker Month and aimed to honor the contributions of farmers and farmworkers while supporting communities across the Central Valley.
Food insecurity rates in the Central Valley remain higher than the national average, making campaigns like this one critical. Through the partnership, the commission — on behalf of California table grape growers — helps stretch donation dollars for greater impact.
“The public and California table grape growers gave generously to this campaign,” said Ian LeMay, president of the commission. “With final donations reaching over $60,000, the Central California Food Bank will be able to provide more than 240,000 meals throughout these significant agriculture communities.”
To conclude the campaign, members of the commission volunteered at the food bank, bagging fresh produce for distribution across the region.
