Consalo Family Farms stays true to its message
For nearly a century, officials at Consalo Family Farms have emphasized family values to focus on building and maintaining relationships with their customers. That means offering a wide range of quality product at fair price points and backing those products with the proper amount of marketing support.
Today, the family business, which was founded by Willliam Consalo Sr. in 1927, when he started buying fresh produce and traveling to sell crops throughout the region, is run by its fourth generation of family members.
Like previous generations, this group of owners continue to focus on consistency and showing the produce industry that they are very serious about how they continue to operate the Vineland, NJ-based company.
The key, they said, is to keep doing what others have done for so long and so well and adapting to changing times by adding a focus on new technologies, equipment and, of course, new ideas to stay ahead of the curve in the competitive and demanding produce industry.
On the eve of the New York Produce Show, the family members who operate the fully-integrated, year-round operation that also provides expertise in shipping, growing, imports and packaging, remain committed to those company ethos that have such a great track record. Once again, they are extremely confident that the show will serve as a great opportunity to interact with new and existing clients and get their message out.
“At Consalo Farms, we have established a loyal customer base founded on quality and exceptional service, complemented by a diverse range of products that includes our year-round organic and conventional vegetables, as well as our citrus and blueberry offerings,” said Jay Schneider, executive vice president of sales for the company. “All of these are tailored to meet our customers’ needs as we continue to grow and expand along the eastern seaboard.”
That may also be why the company is eager to get to New York and the show at the Jacob Javits Convention Center.
“Being present and engaging in the events surrounding the show is equally important to us,” Schneider said. “From the opening reception, which provides a fantastic opportunity to connect with the entire industry and our customers, to the keynote breakfast, these events complement the trade show experience perfectly.”
What will Consalo officials showcase to attendees to stand out in a crowd? Schneider said it will be a combination of new products and the company’s broad line of existing items as well as helping to educate the trade on what is needed to successfully market and sell these items.
“Our new product will be locally grown organic and conventional romaine hearts, available when in season,” he added. “We tested them this year to gauge interest, and demand has steadily increased. In addition, we will be showing our full line of citrus products, organic and conventional vegetables and blueberries.”
The full line of conventional and organic produce include blueberries, wet vegetables, herbs, cooking greens, salad items, grapes and citrus items. Company officials often say they take great pride in their growing organic program, their custom packaging option and their private label program.
Company officials hope that attendees, including current customers and potential new ones, will leave with a better knowledge of what Consalo Family Farms can provide to help them operate their own businesses more successfully well into the future.
“We hope to continue to foster connections within the industry with suppliers while strengthening our relationships with existing customers,” Schneider said. “We also want to increase our awareness among potential new clients — particularly through enhanced product visibility and brand recognition.”
