Side Delights sets shoppers and stores up for Super Bowl success
With football season under way, Side Delights announced solutions for shoppers and retailers to turn the season into innovative snacking and sales opportunities.
Starting with the kickoff football season and culminating with the Super Bowl, fans and friends host watch parties, tailgate parties and Super Bowl parties where food and football often have equal billing.
A 2025 story in Food & Wine magazine 17 Clever Ways to Use Potatoes for Game Day reminds football fans that game-day parties aren’t limited to party dips, chips and chicken wings, suggesting potatoes as a hearty alternative.
According to Side Delights, two party pleasers for enjoying the game at home on TV are the potato board and the potato bowl. The boards are crafted from seasoned mashed potatoes, which serve as a base for other toppings, spread on a cutting board. “Flavorful, finger-food style and satisfying, potato boards are the solution to hungry guests during game day breaks,” said Kathleen Triou, president and CEO of Fresh Solutions Network. “Personally, my favorites are the Greek Isles Mashed Potato Board and the Fall Harvest Mashed Potato Board.”
Consumers can get inspiration for Instagram favorite Potato nachos from social media posts or Side Delights Potato Nachos. “The Nacho Potato Power Bowl brings potato nachos and potato bowls together for the ultimate hearty, healthy game day pleaser,” said Triou. “Or for some nostalgia, revisit potato skins — a popular football spud snack.” Following the retro trend, Food Network created 32 potato skin recipes for each NFL team.
Stores can benefit from the potato’s game day popularity. “We recommend secondary displays within and outside of the produce department,” Triou said. “Incremental sales of the whole potato category traditionally result in more than a 20 percent increase in dollar sales for the category, according to IPC retail test results. Add point of sale and game day or Super Bowl call-to-action messaging, and you have a super plan to maximize sales.”
