Market Minute: Pack in pepper promotions
Bell peppers originated in South America and were cultivated over 6,000 years ago. They were introduced to Europe by Christopher Columbus in the 15th century. Peppers then spread all over the world.
As Bell peppers ripen, they change color from green to yellow, orange and red. They become sweeter with each color change, with red generally being the sweetest.
Currently, the Bell pepper demand is light to good on a lower market. The eastern pepper supplies and quality are good. Even the red and yellow pepper market is steady. Green Bell pepper quality is good coming out of Michigan, California and Mexico; western pepper quality is good to excellent.
The eastern chili pepper market is steady, showing good demand and quality. Most varieties and supplies are coming from Mexico and California.
Peppers are high in sales on the produce category list. Use visual merchandising to display them. Draw customers over to your pepper display by setting it up with some great eye-catching colors. Besides just green and red Bell peppers, stock the display with as many pepper varieties and colors as possible.
There are many lengthy pepper varieties that are sweet and come loose or in attractive packages. There is nothing better than a dramatic pepper display filled with several different choices for your customers.
Your pepper suppliers have all the information needed to help you promote some very attractive ads. Check in with them and design a nice ad section of all peppers.
