Little Leaf Farms introduces Romaine Leaf lettuce
Little Leaf Farms, the leading brand of packaged lettuce sustainably grown through controlled environment agriculture, is expanding its line of leafy greens with the launch of its newest variety: Romaine Leaf.
Setting a new standard in how Romaine is grown and enjoyed, Little Leaf Farms introduces Romaine Leaf, a flavorful lettuce that stays fresh and crispy longer, and is grown without harmful pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides. Nurtured in greenhouses that harness sunlight and fresh rainwater, it’s sustainably produced 365 days a year delivering clean, delicious greens with every bite.
Unlike field-grown lettuce, Little Leaf Farms’ leafy greens are hands-free from seeding to harvest, which means no washing is required. Perfect for salads, sandwiches or any recipe that needs some extra crunch, Romaine Leaf is harvested daily and delivered from greenhouse to grocery store in about a day – a testament to the brand’s commitment to deliver on freshness, quality and taste.
“Romaine is a staple in households across the country, and we saw a real opportunity to elevate this everyday favorite,” said Chris Hill, Chief Revenue Officer at Little Leaf Farms, based in Devens, MA. “By growing our leafy greens in a controlled environment, we’re offering consumers a crisp, fresh Romaine they’ll love, grown in a way they can feel good about.”
Little Leaf Farms’ Romaine Leaf is available in four-ounce packages and can be found on retail shelves throughout the eastern half of the U.S. Romaine Leaf is also available for foodservice customers.
Romaine Leaf is the latest development in Little Leaf Farms’ continued expansion. The new lettuce variety follows the company’s announcement of its newest facility in Manchester, TN – a 215-acre site that will significantly increase production capacity. Once fully operational, the Tennessee greenhouse will supply fresh leafy greens to the Midwest, Southeast, and Texas. Construction is set to begin this summer, with an anticipated launch in Fall 2026.
As the fastest-growing packaged salad brand in the country, Little Leaf Farms continues to advance toward its goal of bringing fresh, delicious leafy greens to all, serving over 50 percent of the U.S. population through 7,000 grocery stores in the eastern U.S.
Tennessee Campus to Open in 2026
The Romaine Leaf debut follows the company’s recent announcement that it will open a new campus in Tennessee next year.
The new site — Little Leaf Farms' third overall — will dramatically expand the brand's production footprint and reinforce its leadership in the fast-growing controlled environment agriculture category.
The new 215-acre site, located in Manchester, TN, is initially planned for 40 acres of greenhouses, with an option to expand to 80 acres.
With financing already in place, Little Leaf Farms will begin construction this summer with an anticipated launch in Fall 2026. Once fully operational, the Tennessee facility will have the capacity to produce enough leafy greens to service the Midwest, Southeast and Texas. The facility will create several hundred jobs over five years.
"Consumers are increasingly choosing our fresher, more flavorful greens over field grown greens," said Paul Sellew, founder and CEO of Little Leaf Farms. "This new campus is a testament to our belief in and commitment to the promising future of indoor-grown leafy greens. Strong consumer demand allows us to invest confidently, and we're grateful to our partners in Tennessee for supporting this next chapter."
"Agriculture is the backbone of Tennessee's economy, supporting tens of thousands of jobs and driving growth in our rural communities," said Gov. Bill Lee. "We're proud to welcome Little Leaf Farms to our state and grateful for their investment in Tennessee. The company's commitment to innovation and job creation will strengthen our agricultural sector and expand opportunities for hardworking Tennesseans."
This expansion caps an exciting first decade for Little Leaf Farms. From its existing campuses in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, the company has grown to supply over 7,000 grocery stores which serve over half the country's population.
"When we launched Little Leaf Farms 10 years ago, our mission was clear: transforming our food system by growing better food in a better way," said Sellew. "That mission remains our north star. Expanding into Tennessee marks a powerful step forward in delivering fresher, better tasting leafy greens to more consumers across the country.”
