Barnwood Valley Farms triples potato acreage in response to customer demand
Barnwood Valley Farms, a potato grower based in the heart of the Pioneer Valley in scenic Hadley, MA, has tripled its planting acreage this year due to a heavy increase in customer demand for its premium Massachusetts-grown potatoes.
This year the farm has increased plantings from 300 to just over 1,000 acres. Additionally, Barnwood now grows a full assortment of varietals, including White Chefs, Russets, Norwis frying potatoes, yellow, red and mini potatoes.
“This is a big summer for us," said Colin Szawlowski, vice president of sales and operations. “Between our expanded acreage and new varietals, we have more options than ever to offer our customers.”
Although Barnwood’s primary focus is growing the best potatoes around, it also partners with other local farms throughout western Massachusetts to help deliver corn, peppers, squashes and other items to customers throughout New England and the Mid-Atlantic.
“Customers want local produce, and we have the partnerships in place to deliver not only what we grow directly on our farm but also what other farmers are growing in the Pioneer Valley,” said Szawlowski. “We are thrilled to be able to help our local farmers move product and provide our customers locally grown produce they are looking for.”
Barnwood Valley Farms is operated by the Szawlowski family and has been growing potatoes along the banks of the Connecticut River for over 100 years. It is part of the ADS Management family of produce companies, which also includes Hapco Farms, Freshouse and MR Farms.
