NNZ selected to join IFPA’s 2025 Fresh Field Catalyst Accelerator
NNZ Inc., a global leader in packaging solutions, has been named one of just nine companies selected to participate in the 2025 cohort of the Fresh Field Catalyst Accelerator, an innovation program powered by the International Fresh Produce Association and the Foundation for Fresh Produce.
As part of this year’s accelerator, NNZ will focus on the development and commercialization of Q-Bic, the next-generation tray solution engineered to address some of the most urgent challenges in the produce industry: escalating logistics costs, food waste and the environmental footprint of traditional packaging.
Steve Greenfield, director of sales and marketing, will be leading the initiative at NNZ. Greenfield emphasizes that “this program will be invaluable in accelerating the rollout of a groundbreaking packaging solution that not only cuts emissions but also supports our customers in meeting new global regulations.”
The patented Q-Bic shaped tray replaces inefficient traditional clamshell and tray packaging with a pyramid-shaped design that cuts container air space, reduces carbon emissions by up to 50 percent, and enhances product protection during transport. It is currently being commercially tested in Europe and Asia, and now will be further developed in North America with fiber and paperboard prototypes aligned with the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and other global standards.
“By combining sustainable materials with innovative design, Q-Bic has the potential to transform how fresh produce is packed and shipped,” Greenfield said.
The accelerator runs through October 2025 and includes mentorship, industry immersion and a product showcase at the IFPA Global Produce & Floral Show. NNZ will use the platform to test prototypes, gather customer feedback, and build partnerships to scale the solution across leafy greens, berries, and other specialty crops.
