Market Minute: Produce markets are finally available for some great promotions
Let’s escape from those dismal weather threats on the crops for a change and consider some of the positive means for ad planning. The choices are friendly right now on multiple produce items.
We finally reached a stronger point where produce directors can pick and choose several items that are readily available for some super advertising promotions. Go after these items while the markets are promising and take advantage of the opportunities to be sales-aggressive in the produce departments.
The strawberry, blackberry, and blueberry supplies has improved. California oranges and Clementine imports are in good supply. Plenty of grapes are available. A steady supply of good quality apples are consistent. Offshore cantaloupe and honeydew supplies have improved with lower markets. Good production of asparagus and a lower market is promotable. The mushroom supply is good. A softer broccoli and cauliflower market is in good availability. Sweet corn supplies and quality is also good. Celery is in a weaker market and good supplies. The lettuce market is lower with improved volume. Bell peppers are abundant with good quality and a lower market. Tomatoes remain in good supplies and a stable market. Russet potatoes and onions are in good supply.
All these items should help produce directors and buyers develop creative ad programs. Just remember that produce markets can change fast. Always make sure to communicate with your suppliers for more information on available quantities to plan some great promotions together.
