Oakley Transport, a family-owned and operated company since 1986, provides superior over-the-road and dedicated transportation services in the United States, Canada and Mexico with complementary logistic services.
The company is currently in the midst of selling off some of its trailers that it no longer needs.
“We have 350-400 fruit trailers that we hauled citrus with that are available,” said Ronald E. Oakley Jr., vice president of sales and customer relations in the dry van/reefer division for the Lake Wales, FL-based company. “My family was in the citrus business for about 65 years and with the crop being reduced, we got out of that and are now just in the transportation side of the business.”
Oakley Transport has already sold some of its inventory to those in the citrus industry and others to people the company works with in Mexico, Georgia and Wisconsin, and it’s hoping to find other interested parties before it decides to scrap the remaining trailers.
“We have trailers from the 1970s through the 2000s; they are all aluminum and are 40- and 42-foot trailers, rated to haul 80,000 pounds,” Oakley said. “They have been well maintained. We did maintenance on them every year.”
And it’s not only citrus growers that the company is talking with, as the trailers can be converted to work with any form of agriculture and all different type of products.
“In the past, I’ve sold some to carrot guys and sold some to cranberry guys, and of course those working with citrus — oranges and grapefruit,” Oakley said. “We’ve used some for watermelon as well.”
Oakley Transport has the trailers situated in three locations in Florida — Lake Wales, Fort Pierce and LaBelle, and anyone who wants to see them first are welcome to arrange to come by.
“We don’t really want to scrap them because they’re in pretty good condition, so hoping there is some interest from those who may need them,” Oakley said.
