Driscoll strengthens ties with Chilean partners
Driscoll Strawberry Associates has entered into an agreement to increase its investment and shareholdings in Driscoll's of Chile. According to the firm, this increased investment will make Driscoll's of Chile stronger and aligns it more closely with the overall Driscoll's organization.
"Driscoll's of Chile has grown dramatically during the past several years under the leadership of Sofia Rebolledo and Mauricio Gonzalez, our long-standing partners who will retain a significant ownership stake in Driscoll's of Chile and will continue to be our co-general managers," Soren Bjorn, Driscoll's senior vice president of international and business development, said in a press release. "We are all proud of their accomplishments."
As Driscoll's blueberry business has continued to grow, Chile has become increasingly important to both the North American berry patch strategy and to Driscoll's partners in Europe. "The new arrangement will create the foundation upon which we can more readily implement changes and improve processes across the many geographies in which we operate," Mr. Bjorn noted in the release.
With the closer partnership, Driscoll plans to streamline quality assurance and logistics to retain the highest-possible fruit quality. In addition, the company expects to move berries quickly and more efficiently to customers and consumers.
Mr. Bjorn added, "Closer alignments will also be created among the administrative functions so that the overall business will have the best- possible support systems to serve our independent growers, customers and other stakeholders."
"This restructuring furthers the already-strong cultural bond and common values between the organizations," Miles Reiter, Driscoll's chairman and chief executive officer, said in the release. "We envision our people working even more closely together in the years ahead as Driscoll's of Chile continues its successful growth and importance to Driscoll's overall strategic plan."
A third-generation, family-owned-and-operated fresh berry company, Driscoll uses natural breeding methods to create plant varieties that produce "The finest berries in the world." Driscoll's conventional and organic strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries are grown by independent farmers around the globe, and are available year round.
