WGA partners with Texas Produce Association on health insurance
In concert with the Texas Produce Association, Western Growers Assurance Trust will be offering health insurance plans developed for companies in Texas beginning Jan. 1.
WGAT, which is a non-profit entity, has been providing health plans designed to meet the needs of agricultural customers since 1957. Previously, it had operated in California and Arizona providing services for Western Growers Association members in those two states.
TPA President John McClung said that WGA has an excellent reputation for providing very good health insurance geared toward agriculture, and he is excited that he can offer it to his membership. "We are not a big enough organization to offer this service independently, so I am very happy that we can partner with WGA on this program."
He said that he has watched what Western Growers Association has done in California and Arizona with health insurance and is especially interested in the ability of those insured under the WGA health plans to access lower-cost care in Mexico. He is not quite sure how that would work for his Texas members, but he is excited about exploring the many different possibilities over the coming months.
