Valencia citrus industry calls on Delaware River trade
GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ -- The citrus industry of Valencia, Spain, descended Dec. 17 on the Gloucester Marine Terminal with considerable force.
The Holt family, owners of Holt Logistics Corp in Gloucester City, NJ, including the terminal on the Delaware River, hosted a delegation of about 25 visitors from Valencia. Many representatives of the Philadelphia, New Jersey and New York produce import trade were present to meet them. A strong media representation was also present.
As the guests toured the Gloucester Marine Terminal, a shipload of Valencia clementines was being unloaded onto the pier.
The Valencia visitors were led by Francisco Camps, who is president of the Spanish region of Valencia, and Maritina Hernandez, who is Valencia's secretary of agriculture. A third speaker for Valencia at the event was Jorge Garcia, export manager of Garcia Ballester S.L. in Castellon, Spain. The three provinces of Valencia, Castellon and Alicante make up the region of Valencia.
President Camps expressed the importance of the connection between the Delaware River seaports and Valencia. He expressed hope that Valencia would soon open a trade office in this Philadelphia area.
