WAC moves forward to select new president
The Washington Apple Commission, headquartered in Wenatchee, WA, is working to appoint a new president in January. This past September, former President David Carlson was placed on administrative leave, and Ken Severn was appointed interim president of the organization.
According to Robin Mooney, WAC vice president and operations director, the position has been advertised in industry publications, websites and general circulation newspapers. "We have it out there," she told The Produce News in October.
At that time, the commission had received 50 applications. Ms. Mooney said that she and Mr. Severn would perform an initial review to assist the members of the Review Committee. Members from the Yakima growing district are Eric Hansen of Hansen Fruit Co. and Mike Zirkle of Rainier Fruit Co. Members from the Wenatchee growing district are Dalton Thomas of Oneonta Trading Corp. and Mike Hambleton of Columbia Marketing International.
Mr. Severn and members of the Review Committee also talked to interested parties at the Produce Marketing Association Fresh Summit last month in Orlando, FL.
"Our initial hope is we will have a good list of candidates," Mr. Mooney said. Recommendations for the appointment are expected to be made Dec. 4 at the WAC board of directors meeting to facilitate a January appointment.
