ORLANDO, FL -- Olivia's Organics, a prepackaged organic salad line owned by State Garden Inc. in Chelsea, MA, made a strong promotional push at the Produce Marketing Association's Fresh Summit convention and expositon.
Olivia's Organics was launched in early 2006 by Mark DeMichaelis, who is a family owner of State Garden, which was founded in Boston's Faneuil Hall 70 years ago.
Olivia's Organics spokesperson Robin Whalen said that this is the DeMichaelis' family's first organic line. In an effort to "give back to the community," Ms. Whalen said, the DeMichaelis family gives a percentage of its proceeds directly to the Olivia's Organics Charitable Foundation.
The mission of that foundation is to support organizations that invest in the lives of children and enrich their future. The foundation supports smaller, local organizations that have an immediate and direct impact on children. The recipient organizations are in New England, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Ms. Whalen said that Olivia's Organics will be moving into a new, modern packing plant outside the New England Produce Center in January or February. The parent company has a packing operation inside the produce center.
Olivia's Organics has its own private and high-level food safety standards. The company uses recyclable packaging materials and has a resealable clamshell containing bagged salads. The clamshell can be used for a serving bowl, and can be used to store part of that salad for consumption at a later time.
Olivia's Organics products are all natural, contain no preservatives and are certified organic by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
