Chilean avocados star at Latino events
Reaching Latino consumers, especially in Southern California, is an important part of the Chilean Avocado Importers Association marketing program. "We recognize that Latino families are an important target for us, because they are heavy users of avocados and because we have seen such a positive response from them," Maggie Bezart, the association's marketing director, said in a press release.
This is the second year CAIA has been a sponsor of Fiestas Patrias, Los Angeles' celebration of Mexican Independence Day and launch of Hispanic Heritage Month. Held downtown on Placita Olvera (Olvera Street), the event attracted more than 200,000 attendees over two days.
CAIA had a tent at the family-oriented celebration and sampled its special avocado spread prepared and piped from a zip-top plastic bag. CAIA also showcased Galavisi?n and TV Food Network star Ingrid Hoffmann, who signed autographs and gave out samples of the Chilean avocado spread.
Ms. Hoffmann, well known for her shows on both networks and a new cookbook, Simply Delicioso, was a big hit with the family-oriented crowds. She signed copies of her "Yummy Avocado Sopita" recipe cards. Telemundo personalities introduced her on the main stage, where she talked about Chilean hass avocados.
Ms. Hoffmann was recently named one of People magazine's Most Beautiful People and she draws crowds for her beauty and her vivacious personality. She also was an important representative for CAIA at "Viva Los Dodgers," a special event for Latino fans at Dodger Stadium. CAIA had a tent at the afternoon event, prior to the game, where Ms. Hoffmann met with fans and signed autographs. She was introduced on the field before the game, and then met Hall of Fame Dodger manager Tommy Lasorda.
At all her appearances, Ms. Hoffmann praises the quality and flavor of Chilean Hass avocados and talks about how she uses them in her shows, her cookbook and her many media appearances.
