Mann rolls out new items
SALINAS, CA -- Mann Packing Co. Inc., here, is rolling out three new vegetable product lines.
Mann's newly named "Steam & Serve" line replaces its previously named "Ready, Set, Steam" line of vegetables, which had won a Packaging Impact Award for Technology from the Produce Marketing Association.
The new line -- which starting hitting store shelves Sept. 29 -- features several changes. Instead of a four-serving container, "Steam & Serve" comes in a three-serving container. The sauce packet is now on the outside of the package and the package includes an illustration on how to microwave the product.
"Steam & Serve" comes in three varieties: Broccoli Italiano, Teriyaki Stir-Fry and Garden Herb Medley. Lorri Koster, vice president of marketing at Mann Packing, said that the Broccoli Italiano with garlic cheese sauce, features upgraded flavor.
Another new product line is "Mann's Veggiecatesen Platters," which offers consumers platter options that differ from traditional vegetable platters. The line -- which began shipping to retailers Oct. 3 -- provides a variety of microwaveable dips for hot or cold offerings and is a 32-ounce platter that includes Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday-themed labels. The platters feature carrot and celery sticks with three variety options: hummus with pretzel crisps, artichoke with pita chips and spinach dip with Italian breadsticks.
The third new product line is called "The Tailgaters," which has protein in the form of beef bites and cheese. The line has party toothpicks and taps into the "tailgating" theme popularized by sports fans.
Mann's platters have a 16-day shelf life and are "line priced with vegetable platters out there on the marketplace," Ms. Koster said.
Mann Packing will have a booth at the upcoming PMA Fresh Summit in Orlando. On Saturday, Oct. 25, food enthusiast Lisa Lillien -- the force behind www.hungry-girl.com -- will sign copies of her best-selling cookbook "Hungry Girl Recipes & Survival Strategies for Guilt Free Eating in the Real World" at Mann's booth. She also will offer samples of two of her broccoli coleslaw recipes served atop Mann's "Simply Singles" whole-leaf lettuce.
Mann's "Simply Singles" washed and ready-to-use single lettuce leaves come in three varieties: Romaine hearts, red leaf and green leaf lettuce.
The line, which is popular with foodservice, was introduced to retailers this past summer.
