Schafer names members and alternates to the Hass Avocado Board
Secretary of Agriculture Ed Schafer recently appointed three producer members, three alternate producer members, two importer members and two alternate importer members to serve on the Hass Avocado Board.
Reappointed to the board were producer members Ben R. Drake of Temecula, CA, and Kenneth J. Roth of Vista, CA; Kay S. Wild, alternate producer member of Vista, CA; importer members James C. Donovan of Ventura, CA, and Giovanni Cavaletto of Redlands, CA; and alternate importer members Elena H. Garcia of Chandler, AZ, and Pilar Charrada of Los Angeles.
Newly appointed to the board were Ohannes Z. Karaoghlanian, producer member, of Temecula, CA; Edward E. Embly, alternate producer member, of Escondido, CA, and Casimir Wyantiec, alternate producer member, of Park Ridge, IL. The members and alternates will serve three-year terms beginning Nov. 1, 2008 and ending Oct. 31, 2011.
Authorized under the Hass Avocado Promotion, Research & Information Act of 2000, the board administers a national promotion, research and consumer information program to maintain and expand markets for Hass avocados. USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service monitors the operations of the board.
